House on 28 Dubai Avenue

A 450 m² house in three wings that act as a buffer between two streets.

The house is designed as a buffer between two streets within the suburban residential setting of Nirvana. This 450 m² building is constructed on a site with a major axis running north–south, which became the key generator for the three wings that define the intimacy gradient.

The brief was for a modern building with the sense of a home and low scale, a seamless transition between street and house, close attention to detail and a balance of light shades, solids and voids. The entrance is defined by a large garage door recessed deep into the mass and a transparent extrusion of Rhodesian teak slats. The three wings are arranged diagonally along the site for maximum solar benefit and share an outdoor courtyard with a swimming pool and garden: public and semi-public spaces first, a high-volume living room next, and the four bedrooms, facing north, in the innermost wing.
