House on 254 Crescent Drive
A courtyard house whose single-storey public spaces rise to a double-storey private wing echoing the tree canopy.
A walk along Crescent Drive is characterised by a canopy of tree tops and wide driveways. The house is one of many being rebuilt to mark the next generation of homes. The intimacy gradient recognises the tree canopy: the entrance and public interface respect the human scale, and the boundary is merged into the transition space for a seamless sense of arrival.
Public spaces are housed in a low single-storey section while a gradual increase in height into a double storey houses the private spaces. The double-storey section echoes the height of the tree canopy and marks the rear boundary. The design considers the organisation and quality of outdoor and indoor spaces, and the bright white building form places emphasis on the green pockets of outdoor space.
